I'M GERALD OWENS AND I'M LENA TILLETT. ONE PERSON IS DEAD AND 3 OTHERS ARE IN THE HOSPITAL AFTER COMMERCIAL FIREWORKS DETONATED CAUSING AN EXPLOSION ON A SMALL FARM. WRAL'S ERIC MILLER HAS BEEN ON THE SCENE. HE JOINS US WITH AN INTERVIEW YOU'LL ONLY SEE ON WRAL. ERIC. LATER, THE SMOKE AND THE SUN HAS SET OUTSIDE OF LA GRANGE. BUT THE SMOKE IS STILL RISING. AND TAKE A LOOK AT THIS HERE BEHIND ME. DOZENS AND DOZENS AND DOZENS OF FIREFIGHTERS. WE REMAIN HERE ON SCENE. THOSE FIREFIGHTERS DEALING NOT ONLY WITH HOT SPOTS WITH UNEXPLODED FIREWORKS, SCATTERED ACROSS THE SMOLDERING FIELDS. FOR FIREFIGHTERS AND NEIGHBORS ALIKE IN UNPRECEDENTED SCENE IN LENOIR COUNTY. BUT THE EXPLOSION WAS MASSIVE. WHAT STARTED AS A CONTROLLED BURN IN A HAYFIELD QUICKLY GETTING OUT OF HAND I TRIED THIS. ALTHOUGH YOU KNOW, OUT THE SHOTS, MICHAEL MOORE, SO IT ALL UNFOLD FROM THE SEAT OF HIS CAR. THIS PLAQUE AND WRECK ALL THE REMAINS OF A PILE OF HAY BATES INTO SHIPPING CONTAINERS FILLED WITH COMMERCIAL FIREWORKS. THAT WAS THIS EXPLOSION THAT SHOT. I KNOW FOR 6 ABOUT SAY 6, 700 FEET IN THE AIR. FIRE OFFICIALS SAYING THAT EXPLOSION INJURED 3 FIREFIGHTERS, ONE CRITICALLY AND KILLED SOMEONE WHO WORKED ON THIS FOR THEY'RE TRYING TO ATTACK THE FIRES QUICK AS THEY COULD TO KEEP IT AWAY FROM THE CONTAINER. UNFORTUNATELY. IT JUST GOT TOO HOT BEFORE THEY CAN ACTUALLY MAKE THAT ATTACK. FIRE OFFICIALS CONFIRM THIS WAS A LICENSED FIREWORKS OPERATION. WE'LL BE INVESTIGATING WHETHER THOSE FIREWORKS WERE STORED PROPERLY AND WHAT CAUSED THE DEADLY BLAST LOOMING UNTIL INVESTIGATION. BUT WE'RE SAYING CONTAINER JUST GOT SO HOT THAT THE CONTENTS WITHIN JUST DETONATED ON A SCIENTIST. WELL, THAT INVESTIGATION IS GOING TO START LIFE IN EARLY TOMORROW MORNING WITH THE REPRESENTATIVES ON WITH THE FBI. THE ATF IS WELL NOW WE ARE STILL WORKING TO LEARN THE NAMES OF THOSE INJURED AND ONE PERSON KILLED OUT HERE. BUT WE DO KNOW THE PERSON FEEL BETTER PERSON WHO WORKED ON THIS FARM. THEY WERE ACTUALLY TRYING TO MOVE SOME OF THOSE CLAIMING A BILLS OUT OF THE WAY WHEN THIS EXPLOSION HAPPENED. WE KNOW JUST TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE SITUATION. WHAT A TRAGEDY THERE IN LENOIR COUNTY. New White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany was a harsh critic of then-candidate Donald Trump before she became a fierce advocate for him, including calling comments he made about Mexican immigrants in 2015 "racist."
Before becoming a prominent pro-Trump commentator during his first campaign, McEnany said it was "unfortunate" and "inauthentic" to call him a Republican. McEnany made the comments in a series of panels on CNN and Fox Business.
McEnany, at the time a Republican writer and Harvard Law student would go on to defend Trump as a CNN contributor during the 2016 presidential election year. After Trump was elected, she served as a spokeswoman for the Republican National Committee and the Trump re-election campaign, before being named White House press secretary in early April.

The Justice Department has issued a new grand jury subpoena to the National Archives for more documents as part of its investigation into the January 6, 2021, attack on the US Capitol, two sources familiar with the investigation tell CNN's Evan Perez and Jamie Gangel.
This latest subpoena, issued on August 17, is in addition to a subpoena the Department of Justice sent to the Archives earlier this year, requesting the same documents and information that the Archives had previously handed over to the House select committee investigating January 6.
This new subpoena, which has not been previously reported, is understood to request additional documents and data from the Archives, pertaining to a period of time both before and after January 6. #EvanPerez #donlemontonight #CNN
